Home renovations

We have lived in our present home for nearly twenty years.   Our tiny little doll house (our first home was 450sq feet) could fit inside the double wide garage!  We joked about how little furniture we had. “Shall we put the love seat in the living room and the couch in the family room or vice versa?”

You are right, it didn’t take us long to fill the extra space.  The birth of our son and the spare bedroom was filled too.

We have spent all these years ridding the 70’s from our home.  We have gone about the changes as it fit to our budget, our life activities and our kids’ ages and needs.  When we complete a project we always say the same thing, ‘Why did we wait so long?’.

Our house is a side split.  We refer to our levels as, upstairs, main floor, downstairs and the basement basement!

When the MIL moved in, (haven’t even written about that yet!), we began building a bedroom for my son in the basement basement.  It was a transformation.  Half the space is his bedroom, a hallway and closet, the other half remains, the basement basement.  I giggle, recalling the looks on my kids’ friends’ faces when they heard us use that term!

That construction completely updated our home giving it continuity and purpose to the space.  My son loved it.  He chose orange for the paint…yep.  I agreed to one wall only.  It worked brilliantly.  The cove in his room took the orange and it was well matched with natural shades.  Pot lights and voila!

Between this new bedroom, hallway, staircase and the ‘downstairs’ is the laundry room.  We finished it last year.  Pinterest and I did a fabulous job decorating!  As silly as it sounds, the renovations to the laundry room changed our home.  A raw walled, cement floor room became appealing as well as functional.  Now we had rid of the 70’s on two levels.

The kitchen, dining room living room gradually enterred the millenium.  Nasty carpet became laminate, knick knack dollar sign shelving were removed – remember them?  The huge counter top was replaced, making the still ugly yet functional cupboards less ugly!

Now, we are in full bathroom reno!  The upstairs bathroom was completely, 100% , full 1970’s mode.  AND NOW IT’S GONE!

My deck was covered in the harvest yellow fixtures and tiled floor.  Bye!  Off to the dump, never to be seen again.  I cannot tell you how I have loathed those yellow pieces of porcelain.

In their place, a beautiful WHITE, shiny, soaker tub with a pot light above!  It makes me tear up.  I know it is only a thing and I shouldn’t love things but I love this tub!

Tomorrow, the ceramic tile will be put down.  By the end of the week I will have a completely new bathroom and I am so happy I tell ya!

About inevertoldher

I love my kids, my husband, my four cats and my sister...not necessarily in that order. Writing, singing (poorly but loudly) and laughing keep me happy. When I eat well, exercise and post daily...I am at my best.
